Through our Lord Jesus Christ grant the gift of the Holy Spirit; and grant that everyone who reads this writing may know You, that You alone are God, and may be strengthened in You, and may separate himself from every heretical, godless, and impious doctrine.

Footnotes
- This work is recommend by many saints and is included for this reason.
- Although the author of this work is unknown, it is included here due to its historical importance.
- The consensus about St. Ignatius’ letters today is that there are seven that are authentic. Of those seven, there exist both “short” and “long” versions (or “recensions”) in the Greek manuscripts. The short recension of the Greek manuscripts is, technically, what scholars today refer to as the “middle recension,” since there exists an abbreviated form of St. Ignatius’ letters in Syriac. That said, ANF 1 places the short and long Greek recensions side-by-side.
